"Contrology is complete coordination of body, mind, and spirit...[it] develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit." - Joseph Pilates
The Pilates method of conditioning, originally called Contrology by its creator, is the ultimate mind-body workout. Every exercise is performed with the goal of simultaneously utilizing all six of these principles: centering, concentration, control, precision, breath, and flow. It's a full-body workout, with a strong focus on initiating all movements from the core, utilizing proper biomechanics and form. A consistent Pilates practice will yield, over time, a heightened sense of body awareness and a mindfulness in how to move one's body to preserve the health of the musculoskeletal system; better posture and balance; and greater overall strength and joint mobility.

Pilates is for everyone, regardless of age or level of fitness. Accommodations can be made for conditions(pre/post-natal, osteoporosis, arthritis, scoliosis, chronic low back or neck ache/pain, etc.), injuries, and post-surgical rehabilitation.
At-home sessions will be comprised of exercises done on a mat, utilizing one's body weight and/or a Magic Circle, theraband, foam roller, or some small weights for resistance. In-studio sessions will generally involve some mat work, but mostly apparatus work on specially designed machines that use springs to provide resistance and allow you to lengthen and strengthen, isolate and integrate.
